We have two great festivals that I know of here in Campbell County. The first is the Mountain Heritage Festival. It is a long standing event and is quite the experience. We also have the ever growing Louie Bluie Festival. In two short years I have to say it has out grown Cove Lake. If there was ever the need for a county fairground this festival is proof. Both are boons to the local economy. Another thing I would like to see return is Summerfest. The last one the Volunteer Times put on was huge especially with the Dierks Bentley concert. The next years would ahve been even bigger had the Times survived. Somebody needs to revive this event.

If it was based on Appalachian heritage type themes (or could be) then you would need to speak to someone one the Campbell County Culture Coalition. I am a new member, but I know the folks to contact within the group.

I agree absolutley that we need a fair. Almost every adjoining county has a fair and a place to hold one. For some reason we do not, and we're one of the largest counties around, with an interstate to bring fair goers in. Also, there is no reason why we cannot have more cultural events. Jellico has a fourth of july festival, why not Lafollette. Stinking Creek has an Appalachian style festival. Why not Lafollette or jacsboro. The louie Blouie festival is an outstanding event, and a nudge in the right direction. All it takes is a few more individuals who want to put forth the effort.

Honestly, part of the problem is that people always talk about wanting this and that to go on in the area, but when a group forms to do something - no one will jump on board. No matter how good the cause is, it seems people just dont want to do anything.
I would love for more people to get involved with the Campbell County Culture Coalition, but people dont want to. As Metallica says, "sad but true"

It worked for Summerfest. It was a fun event especially in its last year. We need a county fairground.

Where in the world would we put it though? Ya know, if they followed through with that rumor about tearing out the road that connects Beech Street with Central Avenue that runs along side of the Shell station - connecting the Rec Center ball field with the walking trail beside the police station, that might provide space. Maybe? I dont know though that would mean we would have to "move" the walking trail out... I dont know!

I do think we need a fair. Louie Bluie and the Mountain Heritage Festival are great but I am thinking something more festive for the kids.

I dont know if White Bridge would work though Pat. It is so far off the main road it might be a deterrent for people.
An actual fair would be something that you would want to bring before the Campbell County Culture Coalition - they would be the most likely group to want to bring something like that here. That might even have a few ideas for the best place to put an actual fair ground.

I can't believe they don't have anything either. When Kyle and I lived in Texas, we lived in a VERY small town. They have the Great Texas Mosquito Festival and it is pretty BIG! People would drive form Houston just to come (an hour away) I mean, if Clute Texas can have one, LaFollette should be able to as well. When we lived in Denham Springs Louisiana, they had the fair grounds in Livingston Parish which was about 30-40 minutes from Baton Rouge but everyone still came to have a good time. Knoxville is only 45 minutes away, I could see people driving from there and think about everyone in between. Start out small and go from there. With all the "land on back roads, SURELY someone would be willing to give a portion of it up once a year. I know I would!! Of course, I can't do it now that I live in Chattanooga, but surely someone there would be willing to do it?

Well, we do have a lot of farmland up the valley's way. If someone up there would loan out there property or whatever, we could use that up there. Otherwise, I dont know. I would have to pull out my CC map and look.

White bridge is not that far off the beaten path really. It just seems that way. I think if we had it people will come.
